The NBA Africa team continues to expand its footprint in Angola, this time delivering three impactful events in Cabinda in partnership with Tidewater.
The activation marked the first time NBA Africa has brought programming to Cabinda, creating new opportunities for youth development, leadership training, and basketball growth in the region.
The two-day program began with a Jr. NBA Coaches Clinic designed to strengthen the capacity of local coaches to deliver effective, engaging, and development-focused basketball training.
More than 50 coaches from across Cabinda participated in sessions focused on basketball fundamentals, skill development, and the Jr. NBA coaching methodology.
The training emphasized the Jr. NBA curriculum, values-based coaching, and best practices for creating positive learning environments. Following the classroom sessions, coaches took to the court for practical demonstrations and hands-on application of the concepts covered throughout the clinic.
On the second day, NBA Africa and Tidewater hosted a Jr. NBA Leadership Workshop for 150 young leaders from across Cabinda.
The workshop focused on the themes of leading oneself and leading others, equipping participants with valuable leadership skills applicable both on and off the court.
A highlight of the session was an inspiring panel discussion featuring Tidewater executives, including Fadi Diab, Vice President of Global Operations; Melissa Mong, Deputy General Counsel, Corporate & Sustainability; and Yuri Augusto, Commercial Manager, West Africa. The panelists shared their personal leadership journeys, explored career opportunities in STEM-related fields, and encouraged participants to pursue their ambitions with confidence and determination.
Participants then took part in breakout sessions centered on Tidewater’s Seven Cs, which reinforced key leadership principles and values.
The workshop transitioned to the basketball court, where participants engaged in a dynamic skills clinic. The session opened with an energetic warm-up led by Tidewater staff, followed by group defensive drills and skill-development stations focused on dribbling, footwork, passing, shooting, and spacing. The day concluded with a leadership activity focused on teamwork, communication, and collaboration.
Overall, the event was highly engaging and impactful, combining leadership development, career inspiration, and basketball instruction in a fun and interactive environment.
The partnership between NBA Africa and Tidewater successfully created meaningful opportunities for young people and coaches in Cabinda, while further strengthening the growth of basketball and youth leadership development in Angola.
